Make it better!
Perhaps you are unable to influence a board decision,
Perhaps an employee is being difficult,
Perhaps your executive team is not working well together,
Perhaps your marriage is in a rut and you only communicate when bickering, or
Perhaps you are having a hard time controlling your stress level.
Whatever it is, it seems easy to wish for some magic, for “someone” that can make it better.
But here is the thing, you are the one that has to take action to make it better!
How? By making a plan of action.
What is a plan of action?
An action plan is a checklist for the steps or tasks you need to complete in order to take action toward the goals you have set. It’s a blueprint, a “how to,” that will take you from point A to point B. It will give you direction and prevent you from becoming stuck.
Why do you need an action plan?
Because it helps you:
Have clear direction
Enhance motivation and commitment
Track progress
Prioritize tasks based on effort and impact.
Limit overwhelm
What’s included in an action plan?
An action plan is an essential part of the strategic planning process. Action plans can be used by executives, managers, teams, or individuals to prepare a strategy to achieve their goals. The more specific the plan, the easier it will be to move you to action.
Components of an action plan include
A well-defined description of the goal to be achieved
Tasks/ steps that need to be carried out to reach the goal
People who will be in charge of carrying out each task
When will these tasks be completed (deadlines and milestones)
Resources needed to complete the tasks
Measures to evaluate progress
An action plan is not set in stone. As time goes by, your organization grows, or surrounding circumstances change, you will have to revisit and make adjustments to meet the latest needs. When things seem not to be working as well anymore, it’s time to review plans and make things better.
Don’t keep waiting for “someone” to make things better. Take responsibility for taking action and making things better. You can do it!
Remember. . .
You don’t have to do it all alone. You can involve other people in also taking responsibility, and being part of the solutions, to make it better!
